Sam the Stegosaurus
Sam was a stegosaurus who lived in times gone by,
And one day he grew so restless, he said to his mum with a sigh,
“I’m tired of staying on these plains just searching for some leaves,
And wandering round with our dull herd, standing, munching in the breeze.
“I want to go on an adventure, I want to go explore,
I want to find some places that I’ve never seen before.”
“Well then Sam” his mum said to him, “if that’s where you want to be,
Perhaps you should go for a walk just make sure you’re back in time for tea.”
Sam did not need telling twice and so headed for the woods,
He trotted straight across the plains as quickly as he could.
He made it to the forest and strolled amongst the trees,
While seemingly oblivious to the dangers that hid in the leaves.
A big T-rex had caught his scent and was following his trail,
When suddenly Sam heard a boom shortly followed by an awful wail.
“LOOK OUT, LOOK OUT!” Sam heard a shout, then saw a diplodocus call
“Beware of falling rocks young man” just then he saw one fall.
“A volcano has erupted” the diplodocus said with a frown
“Rocks were thrown into the air and now they’re on their way back down!”
“Thanks for the warning” Sam replied “I’ll keep an eye out for some more”
While completely oblivious that one had hit the T-rex to the floor.
Sam resumed his strolling and continued on his route,
While completely oblivious that the T-rex was back in pursuit.
He began to climb a mountain when smoke drifted through the air,
Which made Sam think a fire was near, but he couldn’t see one anywhere.
“LOOK OUT, LOOKOUT!” Sam heard a shout, then saw a tortoise on a rock
“Lava’s on its way” she said and will soon be at this very spot.
“Thanks for the warning” Sam replied then moved as quickly as can be,
Before the lava burnt a path downhill through every pant and every tree.
Sam continued his adventure then paused to watch a moth,
While completely oblivious that the lava had cut the T-rex off.
Sam headed through a canyon with cliffs rising either side,
When suddenly the whole ground shook and cracks in the rock opened wide.
“LOOKOUT, LOOKOUT!” Sam heard a shout, so he searched about his trail,
A falling egg caught his eye and he caught it swiftly with his tail.
He then heard an all-mighty crack and rocks began to fall,
He ran while keeping the egg safe “This way!” he heard somebody call.
The voice led him to safety, and he stopped beside a tree,
Here he met a pteranodon who looked as happy as can be.
You caught my only egg, thank you! I’m so glad you didn’t miss,
And then you made it back to safety before you both got squished.
“I’m not sure we would have made it out without your warning words”
He thanked her too, passed back the egg then headed back home to his herd.
Back beneath a fallen cliff the T-rex found that he was stuck.
He’d really had a rotten day; he could not believe his luck!
Sam trotted down the mountain then headed through the trees,
Until he found his herd again munching plants and lots of leaves.
He told his mum about his day while eating up his tea.
“I really can’t believe” he said “all the things I got to see.
“I saw some rocks fall from the sky but I’m glad they missed my head!
I saw lava and a falling cliff and even saved a falling egg.
“I’m glad you had lots of fun” she said, Sam was as happy as can be,
While completely oblivious he’d almost become T-rex’s tea!
